Bazata excited about offer
The Iowa Hawkeyes have been the team showing the most interest in Nebraska defensive lineman Nathan Bazata for some time now and last week became the first school to offer him a scholarship. For the 6-foot-2, 270-pound Bazata, it was somewhat of a surprise as he figured the coaching staff would wait and get a closer look at him at camp again this summer before extending an offer.
"Getting my first offer was big," said Bazata. "I thought they were going to wait until after camp, so it kind of shocked me and my family, but it was exciting, It's a Division I scholarship and that's always been one of my dreams is to play Division I football and now I have that opportunity."
As a junior, Bazata racked up 115 tackles and nine sacks playing eight-man football at Howells, NE. He led his team to a 12-1 record, including a victory over future Hawkeye Drew Ott's Giltner team in the state quarterfinals. Bazata, who is also a very good wrestler, is open to playing on either side of the ball in college, but prefers defensive tackle.
