Utah's Mr. Football getting offers
Sandy (Utah) Alta High School has produced one of the best - if not the best - juniors in Utah football history.
Running back Sausan Shakerin, Mr. Football in Utah for 2006 and the first junior to ever win the award, posted 2,245 yards on 246 carries with 30 touchdowns, including a 99-yard kick-off return for a touchdown.
"He has great vision," said Alta head coach Les Hamilton. "He also has amazing lower body strength."
With all of these impressive stats and accolades, Shakerin has already received offers from BYU and Utah and has garnered interest from Florida, Colorado and Washington.
"I'm pretty interested in Florida," said Shakerin. "But I'm leaving things open and seeing what shakes out over the next year."
National championships are part of the reason he is interested in Florida, but he also has another reason.
"Florida coach Urban Meyer is a lot like Coach Hamilton," he said. "It's not just about football; it's also about learning to be a man."
With all of the accolades, he has the opportunity to go to some elite camps and combines, but he has not set a schedule yet.
"I will be going somewhere this summer," he said. "I'm not sure where yet, but I will be out there showing what I can do."
At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, the back known as "Shak" runs a 4.5 40 and possesses a 36-inch vertical. He also has a bench max of 245 pounds and a squat max of 495 pounds.
