Wright headed to NBA

After repeatedly saying he would return for his junior year, Julian Wright had a change of heart. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward from Chicago Heights, Ill., announced his intentions to enter the 2007 NBA draft during a press conference in Lawrence on Monday. During his sophomore campaign at Kansas, Wright averaged 12-points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

"First of all, we'd like to thank everybody for showing up today," said Kansas head coach Bill Self. "It's obvious with this turnout, shows the support we have of the media here for Kansas University basketball. It may be somewhat anticlimactic due to the fact that some things got out this weekend.

"We kept our plan we had in place," he added. "Julian wanted to make a formal announcement today, and he will do so at this time."

It didn't take long for Wright, who averaged 10.4-points and 6.3 rebounds during his two year career at Kansas, to get his message out.

It was quite clear from several reports this weekend that Wright, barring a last minute change of hear, was headed for the NBA.
