Cannon aiming for the top
While most teams were enjoying their Labor Day Jeremy Cannon and his West Point teammates were hard at work.
The Green Wave held an early morning practice on Monday in preparation for their rivalry game with Starkville on Friday. It has been all business for Cannon since losing their opening game to Shannon in the final minute.
"Every good team loses one," Cannon said. "We're not losing anymore though. It's better to go ahead and lose one and get it out of the way than lose another one down the line when it really counts."
To make matters worse, West Point had an open date during week two so the loss stuck with them through two weeks of practice.
"It was real hard, especially on Friday coming out here knowing that you don't have a game," Cannon said. "It was hard sitting there knowing everybody else is playing game. I went down to the Columbus and Noxubee game to watch them but I felt like we should have had a game."
But the Green Wave were able to get back on track last week with a 24-6 victory over Columbus. Cannon came up with a 64-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter but the return was negated by a clipping penalty.
