San Diego's top lineman for 2008?
Sam Brenner established himself as one of the top prep linemen in the San Diego area last fall.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound offensive lineman from Oceanside (Calif.) High was the only junior named first-team all-CIF in the San Diego Section. He also earned all-league and all-North County honors.
"I'm really intense," Brenner replied when asked about his best attributes as a player. "I just love the game. I am also really good at pass protection for being a high school offensive lineman."
In the weight room, Brenner benches 305 pounds and squats 400 pounds. "Right now I'm focused on football workouts and getting stronger," he added. "I want to get my bench up a lot more."
On the recruiting front, UCLA and Colorado have been showing the most interest early on.
What factors will go into his college decision? "Location will definitely be a big factor," Brenner said. "I kind of want to stay local because I have lived here all my life and I think Southern California is a really cool place. Also just the overall state and prestige of the program will be a big factor."
