March 16, 2009 WICHITA, Kan. - The end. College football's most complicated recruiting story is finally officially over. Running back Bryce Brown, the nation's top-rated high school football player, announced his intention to sign with Tennessee on Monday afternoon during a press conference at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.A Wichita East High School graduate, Brown chose new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and the Volunteers despite offers from USC, Oregon, Miami, Oklahoma, Kansas State and LSU among others. At this Monday press conference, Brown said his college choice came down to Tennessee and K-State. The 6-foot, 215-pound Brown originally committed to Miami, the school at which his brother currently plays linebacker, on Feb. 23 of last year, but despite never officially decommitting, chose to keep his options open and listen to pitches from other schools. The Wichita-born tailback took official visits to LSU, Oregon, Clemson and Tennessee during that time. The five-star tailback racked up more than 6,800 yards during his career at Wichita East and earned MVP honors at this year's U.S. Army All-American Bowl after scoring a pair of touchdowns in the contest. |
