May 11, 2009 Some of America's elite basketball prospects and top traveling teams will converge on Manhattan, Kansas, the last three days of May for the second annual KansasStateCars.com Manhattan Classic basketball tournament.Among the many players competing in the event will be 2010 Kansas State commitment Will Spradling and Harrison Barnes from Ames, Iowa. Barnes is ranked the fourth best recruit in the nation for the 2010 class by Rivals.com and is receiving recruiting interest from all over the country. Also appearing in the event will be Wichita's Perry Ellis, who was named the state's top player this past season as a freshman. Basketball prospects who are committed to play for programs such as Duke, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and West Virginia will also compete, along with numerous uncommitted top youth players from around the nation. Fifteen of the nation's top 100 prospects will be competing in this year's event, being held May 29-31 on the Kansas State University campus. The elite basketball event, which is being organized by Heartland Hoops of Kansas City, will also feature teams from around the country, tournament spokesman Matt Suther said. "We are extremely excited with the interest level we have gotten because of the quality of last year's event," Suther said. "The event has already doubled in size from 36 teams to 70 in just one year. With the additions to this year's field we are confident that the level of competition will be even better than last year. "We have DC Assault coming back again this year along with several other top teams from around the country such as Team Texas Elite Texas DI Ambassadors, Martin Brothers, All Iowa Attack, Houston Clippers, Colorado Chaos and Spiece Mo-Kan Elite." Sponsored again through the generous support of KansasStateCars.com, the tournament runs May 29-31 with games being played at Bramlage Coliseum and the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex on the Kansas State campus. Tickets cost $10 per day or $25 for a three-day pass. Tickets can be purchased at the K-State Super Store at 520 McCall Road in Manhattan, at Powercat Illustrated's offices at 1125 Moro in Manhattan's Aggieville Business district or online at GoPowercat.com.
