Sooner Commit Ready for State Title Game

Though there are only three Sooner commitments still alive in their own playoff races, one of them has reached the state finals. That player is Conway Spring, Kan. three-star linebacker Jaydan Bird. Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hutchinson, Kan. Bird and his Cardinals teammates will try to carry on their school's rich tradition.

While many are picking the Cardinals to take down undefeated Silver Lake their game last week came as a surprise to many Kansas high school football experts with Conway ending three straight losses to two-time defending state champion Garden Plain.

"Early on it was back and forth, we scored and then they scored, and then we scored twice but then we kind of held them out," Bird explained. "It was 25-12 going into half.

"We came out strong in the third quarter. They were really keying on me, we just ran sweeps back side. Our other guys were just running through tackles and making plays."
