MSU strong for Pa. OT

The early part of the summer will be busy for Lancaster (Pa.) Lancaster Catholic offensive lineman Adam DePietro. The 6-5, 270-pounder is planning to take a number of unofficial visits over the next couple weeks with the hopes of making his college decision by early July.

"I have a trip planned out, I think it's like June 13 or something like that, right around that time, and I'm going out to see a couple schools out there in the Midwest," DePietro told SpartanMag.com earlier this week. "I'm going to see Northwestern and then Michigan State and then Illinois and then Wisconsin."

According to a report earlier today on WildcatReport.com, DePietro will follow up his Midwest tour with stops at West Virginia, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt and NC State.

All of the schools on DePietro's visit itinerary have offered except Illinois and Wisconsin, though he believes the Illini and Badgers will offer while he's on campus. He picked up the offers from Cincinnati and NC State during the evaluation period.

"I can definitely see some schools that I'm more interested in, but I think this next couple of weeks is going to set things apart," DePietro said. "I'm going out to Pitt this weekend and then I'm obviously going out to that trip to the Midwest, and I think by then I'll have a good idea of what I want to do with myself and hopefully get to a make a decision in early July after I go to see a couple more places after that."

When asked about the "some of the schools I'm more interested in," DePietro elaborated by saying, "Well, I'm going to go hit all the schools that have offered me. I mean, they invested themselves in me, so I should definitely go check everybody out. But I definitely like Michigan State, Northwestern, Boston College; I do like Pitt and Rutgers also. I just need to go check out a couple more places."

DePietro talked about why the Spartans sit among the schools that stand out at the homestretch of his recruitment.

"Obviously the success that they have had and it looks like they're only going up from here," he said of MSU. "It's got to be really exciting to play for a team with that much success, and I just think it would be a great team to be a part of."

And obviously DePietro will get a better idea about the program when he's in East Lansing next week. His goal while he's there is to figure out if it's a place where he will feel comfortable over the next four to five years.

One thing he's sure of so far, though, is his comfort level with his would-be position coach and primary recruiter, Mark Staten.

"I love the O-line coach, Coach Staten. I got to speak with him and I could definitely see myself playing for him," DePietro said. "I already know I like him, so I hope to meet some players and see what type of people they are and if I fit in, in their locker room. And I'm trying to meet some others guys on the staff and the coaches and see if they're the type of guys I'd like to play for."

When asked what Staten likes about his abilities, DePietro said, "He likes the way I play the game. He can see that I love football, and they can tell that from my film. He likes my athleticism along with a little bit of a mean streak. He likes the way I play the game and he thinks I will fit in well with the guys."

Now Staten and the rest of MSU staff will wait another week to leave one last impression on DePietro before he makes his July decision.
