K-State announces 2014 recruiting class
Bill Snyder released the Wildcats' 2014 recruiting class Wednesday with the announcement of 28 student-athletes who plan on joining or have already joined the K-State football program.Kansas State head coach
The 2014 signing class is made up of 18 players from the high school ranks, as well as nine community-college players, while current Wildcat offensive lineman Will Ash has been awarded a scholarship.
Of the group, six are currently enrolled at K-State and will participate in April's spring practices, which culminate with the Purple/White Spring Game on April 26.
This year's class boasts 16 offensive players, while 12 reside on the defensive side of the ball.
The class is made up of eight offensive linemen, five linebackers, five defensive backs, four wide receivers and two defensive linemen, while the Wildcats are bringing in one quarterback, running back, fullback and tight end.
K-State also signed three high school seniors from Blue Springs High School in the Kansas City area, which is the most from one high school in a single signing class since 1999 when the Wildcats signed three from Mesquite North in Mesquite, Texas (Josh Buhl, Bryan Hickman and Corey White).
As is the case in years past, the Wildcat coaching staff scoured the nation for talent as Kansas State's class of 2014 is represented by 12 different states, including six from Missouri, five from Texas, four from Kansas, two from California, Colorado, Georgia and Illinois, and one each from the states of Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
AT ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered three years for the Saints under head coach Aaron Beck, including his senior year in which he earned All-Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) honors and helped All Saints win a state championship... Rated the nation's 67th-best safety by Scout.com... Also helped the Saints win a state championship as a junior... Registered 226 tackles and 10 interceptions in his prep career... Totaled 1,491 career receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on 86 receptions during his career, including his senior season in which he hauled in 47 receptions for 981 yards and 14 scores... Also lettered in basketball, earning First Team All-SPC honors two times... A strong student who was selected to the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
PERSONAL: Kendall Tyler-Jacob Adams was born August 28, 1995... Son of Shon Adams... Plans on majoring in engineering.
AT TIVY HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Antlers under head coach David Jones... Earned 2013 Texas District 27-4A Offensive MVP honors and was named to the San Antonio Express-News All-Area Sub-5A First Team after catching 41 passes for 767 yards and 11 touchdowns... Also selected to play in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game held at the Alamodome in January, a game in which he hauled in nine receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown... Earned honorable mention all-state as well as all-area honors as a junior in 2012... Also participated in track.
PERSONAL: Tyler Chase Ahrens was born February 8, 1996, in San Antonio, Texas... Son of Chase and Stephanie Ahrens... Has three siblings, Taylor, Tindall and Tatum.
AT GROSSMONT COLLEGE: Played two seasons for the Griffins under head coach Mike Jordan... Helped Grossmont go 5-6 and earn a trip to the Western State Bowl during his sophomore campaign, while the Griffins were 5-5 during his freshman season of 2012... Rated the nation's 13th-best junior college offensive tackle by ESPN.
AT VALHALLA HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered two seasons for the Norsemen under head coach Charlie Bussey... Selected to play in the 2011 California All-Star Game... Also participated in basketball and track and field.
PERSONAL: Harry Lee Allen was born September 16, 1994, in Hartford, Md... Son of Harry and Gwen Allen... Plans on majoring in business.
2013: Played in 11 games on both field goal protection and as a reserve offensive lineman.
AT CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered three years for the Irish under head coach Rick Strieff... Led teams to consecutive state titles as a junior and senior, winning 13 games each season... Earned honorable mention all-city as a junior and senior... Also lettered in wrestling as well as track and field.
PERSONAL: Williams Thomas Ash was born in Indianapolis, Ind... Son of Alvin and Thomanisa Ash... Has one brother, Andrew... Participated in marching band, jazz band, gospel choir and guitar club in high school... Plans on majoring in kinesiology.
AT DODGE CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played one season for the Conquistadors under head coach Gary Thomas... Rated the nation's fourth-best junior college defensive tackle by ESPN... A 2013 Second Team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American and First Team All-Jayhawk Conference selection after recording 40 tackles with 7.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks... Four of his tackles for loss came against Coffeyville... Helped Dodge City earn a 6-4 record and an appearance in the Valley of the Sun Bowl in Scottsdale, Ariz., which resulted in No. 19 final national ranking... Teammate of fellow K-State signee Danzel McDaniel.
AT GRAND RAPIDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played the 2011 season for the Raiders prior to the college discontinuing the program... Saw time in six games, registering 13 tackles, including six for loss and four sacks as he helped GRCC finish with an 11-0 record and a No. 3 national ranking.
AT PROVISO EAST HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Pirates under head coach Aaron Peppers... Named an All-West Suburban Conference performer as a senior.
PERSONAL: Terrell Clinkscales was born June 9, 1992... Son of Diane Willis... Has a two-year old daughter, Pa'Miyah.
AT HARRISONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner and three-year starting quarterback for the Wildcats under head coach Chuck Lliteras... A two-year all-district performer and three-year all-conference honoree... Named to the academic all-state team as a senior, while he picked up first team all-state honors during the 2012 season after leading Harrisonville to a 12-3 record and the state semifinals... Threw for 1,074 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 1,026 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior... Was the Missouri Class 4 quarterback rushing and scoring leader in 2012... Came back with 642 passing yards and six scores along with 563 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground as a senior.
PERSONAL: Zachary D. Davidson was born November 20, 1995, in Kansas City, Mo... Son of Gary and Denise Davidson... Has three siblings... Plans on majoring in industrial engineering.
AT SANTA ROSA JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played two seasons for the Bearcubs, including the final year under head coach Lenny Wagner... Ranks as the nation's fifth-best junior college wide receiver by ESPN... Named an All-Nor-Cal Conference performer in 2013 after hauling in 41 receptions for 841 yards and five touchdowns, while rushing seven times for 27 yards and another touchdown... Also returned 28 kickoffs for a 21.1-yard average with a 98-yard touchdown and eight punts for a 6.4-yard average and a 58-yard touchdown... Had a solid freshman campaign as well, catching 32 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns, returning 14 punts for an 11.0-yard average and 11 kickoffs for a 16.2-yard average... Enrolled at K-State in January and will participate in spring practices.

AT GARDEN CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played two seasons for the Broncbusters, including the 2013 campaign under head coach Matt Miller, a former K-State quarterback and assistant coach... Also tutored by Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach Jeff Kelly, another former Wildcat... Ranks No. 3 nationally among junior college outside linebackers by ESPN... Named a First Team All-Jayhawk Conference performer in 2013 after finishing with 67 tackles, including nine for loss, one sack, three interceptions and four pass breakups... Also forced a fumble and returned another 80 yards... Registered a team season-high five tackles for loss against Highland CC... Totaled 48 tackles with one pass deflection as a freshman in 2011.
AT HERMITAGE HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Panthers under head coach Patrick Kane... Helped Hermitage earn a 12-1 record and an appearance in the Virginia state semifinals.
PERSONAL: D'Vonta J. Derricott was born April 22, 1993, in Richmond, Va.
AT MANHATTAN HIGH SCHOOL: A three-year letterwinner for the Indians under head coach Joe Schartz... Helped Manhattan earn an 8-3 record and a trip to the sectional round of the Kansas 6A playoffs in 2013 by catching 13 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns... Was a two-time honorable mention all-state selection by the Topeka Capital-Journal and Wichita Eagle... Also named to the 2013 all-state team by Hovepensports.com... Named to the All-Centennial League as both a junior and senior... Rated the 14th-best fullback nationally by Scout.com, the 22nd-best tight end/H-Back by ESPN and the 10th-best player in the state by Rivals.com... Also lettered in basketball.
PERSONAL: Winston M. Dimel was born October 9, 1995, in Manhattan, Kan... Son of Dana Dimel and Kim Iversen... A second-generation Wildcat as his father, Dana, was an offensive lineman for K-State from 1984-86 and is the current co-offensive coordinator/running backs/tight ends coach... Has three siblings, Josey Thompson, Lee Iversen and Cal Iversen.

AT FRANCIS PARKER HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Lancers under head coach John Morrison... A second-team pick at tight end as both a junior and senior... Helped Francis Parker earn California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) runner-up finishes in both 2011 and 2012, while he was a member of the 2009 CIF Championship squad... Also a three-year letterwinner in basketball and two-year letterwinner in volleyball... Originally signed with K-State out of high school in 2013 as he is currently enrolled and will participate in spring practices.

AT BUTLER COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played two seasons for the Grizzlies under head coach Troy Morrell... Helped Butler finish sixth nationally in 2013 with a 9-2 record, while BCC finished second in 2012 with an 11-1 mark... Earned 2013 Second Team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America honors while also being named a First Team All-Jayhawk Conference performer... Ranks No. 14 nationally among junior college offensive tackles by ESPN... A midyear signee who will participate in K-State's spring practices.
AT SCOTT CITY HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Beavers under head coach Glenn O'Neil... Helped team win league and district championships in 2011 as they went 11-1... Played tight end in high school, catching 26 passes for 393 yards and two touchdowns over three seasons, including 15 receptions for 192 yards during his senior campaign.
PERSONAL: Luke Hayes was born November 2, 1993, in Topeka, Kan... Son of Larry and Sandra Hayes... Has three siblings, Dakota, Lane and Wyatt.
AT HOPEWELL HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Titans under head coach Matthew Jenkins... Named all-county and all-area by the Charlotte Observer, while he was the conference's special teams player of the year... Collected 830 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior through the air while rushing for 525 yards and five touchdowns... Also returned punts for an average of 20.5 yards on punt returns and 18.7 yards on kickoff returns... Set school records for touchdowns, receiving yards and all-purpose yards... Selected to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
PERSONAL: Dominique Ali Heath was born February 22, 1996, in Cincinnati, Ohio... Son of Robert and Jewell Heath... Has one brother, Denzel, who plays football at Hampton... Plans on majoring in business.
AT TUCKER HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Tigers under head coach Bryan Lamar... Helped Tucker earn a 14-1 record and a trip to the state championship game... Named a first team all-state honoree in 2013 by the Georgia Sportswriters, while he was an All-DeKalb County pick by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution... Rated as the nation's 70th-best outside linebacker by ESPN... Selected to play in the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game.
AT HUTCHINSON CC: Played two seasons for the Blue Dragons under head coach Rion Rhodes... Named an Honorable Mention All-Jayhawk Conference player in 2013 as he helped Hutchinson earn an 8-4 record and a No. 17 final ranking, while the Blue Dragons went 9-3 record and finished No. 12 nationally in 2012... Also helped Hutchinson pick up back-to-back Salt City Bowl victories.

AT HIGHLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played one season for the Scotties under head coach Aaron Arnold, helping the team earn a 6-4 record... Ranks No. 12 among junior college cornerbacks by ESPN... Came away with 42 tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups... Returned an interception 29 yards against Butler, a season-long return for the Scotties which helped Highland defeat the fourth-ranked Grizzlies, 23-21... Redshirted the 2012 season.
AT SPARTANBURG HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped for the Vikings under head coach Freddy Brown... Helped Spartanburg earn a 5-3 record in 2011... Played quarterback throughout his prep career before switching to cornerback as a senior, a year in which he led the state with 17 pass breakups and recorded three interceptions.

Named the Columbia Daily Tribune's Offensive Player of the Year after hauling in 81 catches for 1,545 yards and 24 touchdowns... His receiving yardage ranks sixth in state history while he finished two touchdowns shy of tying the state record, held by current Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham... AT SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played one season for the Fighting Artichokes under head coach Doug Madoski... Helped SCC earn a 10-1 record, which included a victory over Dodge City Community College in the Valley of the Sun Bowl, and a Western States Football League Championship.
AT VICTOR VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played his freshman season at Victory Valley College in Novato, Calif., under head coach David Hoover... Logged 30 tackles, including six for loss, in nine games.
AT NORTHGATE HIGH SCHOOL: Played at Northgate High School in Newnan, Ga., under head coach Bill Luckie... Helped the Vikings earn an 11-1 record and a trip to the second round of the Georgia Class AAAA State Playoffs.
AT WIGGINS HIGH SCHOOL: Played for the Tigers under father and head coach Mitch Risner... Named one of the Denver Post's top-25 players in the state during the 2013 season and was an all-state selection by the organization in 2012... Also named an all-state player by Root Sports in 2012 and 2013... Rated the nation's sixth-best center and the fifth-best player in the state by Rivals.com, while he is the nation's seventh-best center according to ESPN... Selected to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in January in Orlando, and the U-19 International Bowl between Team USA and Canada Football on February 7, in Arlington, Texas... AT VALOR CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered four years for the Eagles, including his senior year under head coach Rod Sherman... Named one of the Denver Post's top-25 players in the state during the 2013 season and ranks 30th nationally among offensive tackles by ESPN... Helped Valor Christian win the Colorado 5A State Championship all four years, while the school has won five-straight state titles... Also competed in basketball, wrestling and track and field, while he is an academic all-state student.
