Foster named Rookie of the Week
Marcus Foster was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time on Monday after his season-high 34-point effort in the win over No. 15/18 Texas.Freshman
A 6-foot-2, 200-pound rookie, Foster becomes the first Kansas State true freshman to earn the weekly honor twice since Michael Beasley did it for the eighth and final time on March 3, 2008. He joins Beasley and Bill Walker (redshirt freshman) as the only freshmen in school history to earn the accolade more than once in a season. Foster won the award for the first time on Jan. 6 after averaging 16 points in wins over George Washington and No. 6/6 Oklahoma State. The Newcomer honor is the 28th by a Wildcat since 1998-99 and the 12th won by a K-State freshman in the Big 12 era.
A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Foster scored a season-high 34 points in the 74-57 win over the Longhorns, as he connected on 13-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. The 13 field goals and the five 3-pointers were both season-highs. He also added three rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes. His 34 points were the most by a Wildcat since Jacob Pullen scored 38 points against Wisconsin in his final college game in the NCAA Tournament on March 19, 2011 and the most by a true freshman since Beasley posted 39 points against Kansas on March 1, 2008. Overall, he is the fifth Wildcat true freshman to record a 30-point game, joining Mike Evans, Curtis Redding, Norris Coleman and Beasley.
One of only two players to start every game this season, Foster paces the Wildcats in a number of categories, including scoring (14.7 ppg.), double-digit scoring games (18), field goals (118) and 3-point field goals (50), while he is among the Top 5 in rebounding, assists, blocks, steals and minutes. He has scored in double figures in 18 of the last 23 games, including 20-point outings in three of the last four contests. He has also knocked down at least one 3-pointer in 20 of 23 contests.
Foster already holds the K-State freshman record for 3-point field goals (50), while he is fifth in field goal percentage, sixth in points (339) and seventh in field goals (118) among Wildcat rookies.
