A commit for the 2017 recruiting class, defensive back Tancey Richardson and Kansas State never drifted far apart, despite Richardson initially not qualifying academically. After spending a year at a junior college in Mississippi, the three-star safety is now at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas.

Once again, Richardson appears to be on a track for Manhattan.

The junior college safety prospect is now a commit for K-State in the class of 2019. We have confirmed a mutual relationship, and understanding, still exists between Richardson and K-State. As does the interest.

Richardson confirmed to KSO on Sunday that he's indeed committed to the Wildcats and appreciates the K-State coaching staff for always keeping in contact with him since his initial signing.

It makes sense for Kansas State to be in the business of a junior college safety in the class of 2019.

After all, the Wildcats will lose both Eli Walker and Kendall Adams to graduation after the 2018 regular season. Having a potential instant contributor, like Richardson, will be a huge benefit moving forward.

That does not mean this is a done deal, especially this early in the process.

Richardson won't sign until December, and if you watch how he uses his Twitter account, he does enjoy being recruited. Several Power Five programs have expressed interest.

It would not be shocking, despite being considered the first commit for the class of 2019, if the new Wildcat pledge does look around some and check out other campuses.

However, at the end of the day, a junior college safety is a pretty strong need in the class of 2019. Richardson hopes he'll ultimately be able to fill that void for the Wildcats.
