Sophomore guard D.J. Augustin (Texas) has been named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the year, it was announced by the conference. Junior forward DeMarre Carroll (Missouri) was chosen as Preseason Newcomer of the Year, while forward Michael Beasley (Kansas State) earned Preseason Freshman of the Year accolades. Augustin made his impact on the Big 12 record book last season by dishing out 233 assists, the third-best freshman total.
