Only three prospects were in attendance at the Kansas State Junior Day that already held an offer. It still remains that way at this point as well. But I still tend to think one of the prospects without an offer that was in Manhattan visiting the Wildcats eventually is extended a scholarship by Bill Snyder.

Who that will be is tough to pin down at this early stage but someone worth keeping in consideration would be offensive lineman Jonny Bottorff of Notre Dame High in Quincy, Illinois. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound guard has not grabbed his first offer of the process so far, but in addition to the Wildcats, has strong interest from Illinois and Iowa State.

Bottorff had a great first experience with K-State.

“I loved it,” he said. “Coach (Bill) Snyder and his whole staff were great. They made me feel at home. It is a very family-first environment and it was very genuine.”

Kansas State has already communicated to Bottorff that it will likely take a strong camp performance to warrant an offer but he is more than willing to prove his worthiness.

“It’s definitely a place I’m going to camp at this summer,” he said. “This Junior Day was my first time being there. I really like the blue-collar feel of their program and even the great history of walk-ons. They really talked about how when you’re there, they are going to develop you and give you every opportunity to succeed.”

A strong relationship with the position coach typically makes for a successful recruitment for the school. Using that as a guide, it is safe to say the Wildcats should have little problem reeling Bottorff in, whether it is via a preferred walk-on, gray-shirt opportunity or on immediate scholarship.

“I spoke a lot with Coach (Charlie) Dickey, the offensive line coach and Coach (Mo) Latimore, who recruits my area,” Bottorff said. “They both spoke to my head coach on the phone last week to find out more information about me and to continue to show interest. Coach Dickey likes my film and told me during the visit Saturday that he likes how I finish my blocks and play aggressive.”

“I really liked Coach Dickey,” he added. “I really do think he’s one of the best offensive line coaches in the country. He just knew it all and he builds great chemistry with his guys.”
