Butler DT Charles Cole emerging as major target for K-State

He’s been a prospect that has been on the periphery on the K-State radar for most of the recruiting process so far. The pieces would have to fall just right for him to enter the serious discussions in regard to an offer.

It looks like that time has come for Butler County Community College defensive tackle Charles Cole.

The junior college product visited the Wildcats for the Central Arkansas contest. He was joined by many of his Grizzly teammates. Of course, one of the main points of contact, like it is with nearly ever recruit, has been Director of Recruiting Taylor Braet. Braet has been around the Butler County C.C. program a ton and his father is still an assistant coach for the juco juggernaut.

“He is the man,” Cole said of Braet. “He and his dad are some of the best people I have ever met. And he is great at his job. He let me know that coach Mo Lattimore will be coming to see me.”

The plan is that Lattimore will head to El Dorado to see the Butler County C.C. contingent soon after Thanksgiving, when the contact period opens. At that point, there’s allowed to be in-person contact between the athletes and college programs away from college campuses. It's the time where in-home visits take place. Remember, this time will be key with the early signing period beginning on December 20.

Cole is nearly a lock to join the K-State class if he is extended an offer. He’s made it clear it's one he definitely has valued and wants. But he’s seen an offer sheet grow substantially from what it was just a few months ago. Division II schools, a couple FCS programs and Kansas have now offered.

But why all the interest in the ‘Cats?

“I like the atmosphere,” Cole told KStateOnline.com. “I thought it was a great place when I visited. I loved how the team interacted with each other in pre-game, and before the game. It showed me that they really play for each other. I also like how losing isn’t accepted at K-State. It’s always a priority to win.”

“I also like how they’re playing this year,” he added. “It isn’t the best year but I love to see them boys go hard even though it isn’t the ideal season they wanted.”

Cole, along with some of his defensive teammates, were very animated on the sideline and enjoying themselves when they were in town for the Central Arkansas game. Former Butler County C.C. Grizzly Byron Pringle made sure to give them attention and show some love as well.

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound junior college tackle intends to make a second trip to Manhattan should his meeting with assistant Mo Lattimore go well. It would not surprise me to see the Wildcats defensive line coach convince him to take his official visit the weekend of December 1, with his teammate Will Honas (who also holds a K-State offer).

There’s some things that still have to happen, but there’s a better chance than not Cole grabs an offer from the Wildcats.
