OFFENSIVE MIND

Since Rodney Perry was announced as the third assistant for Kansas State, KSO has shared this information, but he revealed in his introductory press conference that he will help out more on the offensive end.

Perry admitted that he has built a reputation in that phase of the game through his coaching the last several years. Of course, that includes a third Peach Jam title, which is rare air on the EYBL (Nike) grassroots circuit.

It makes a ton of sense since Jerome Tang, Ulric Maligi and Jareem Dowling all have been geared more towards defense throughout their careers.

APPROACH AND PHILOSOPHY

Tang not only has recruited some of Perry's players in the past, but he watched his games, saw how he coaches, observed his practices and got understanding on how he organized and ran MoKan Elite.

That helped him make the decision to chase Perry as a member of his staff. Tang also likely noted some of the offensive concepts that made Perry such an attractive candidate for his program.

Perry shared how many of their ideas, beliefs, philosophies and approaches align. That is part of the reason why he didn't join K-State until much later. Both he and Tang are of the mindset that you finish what you start and fully invest yourself in all of your commitments.

One of those was to MoKan Elite for the Summer after advancing Link Academy to the finals of the Geico Nationals in Florida.

Within the program, they have alignment as well. Perry pointed out some of the coaching similarities they have, which includes being very detail-oriented and to constantly holding their players and everyone else in the program accountable.

IMPRESSION OF ROSTER

Perry was wisely asked his impressions of the roster by Manhattan Mercury's Tim Everson. The newest Kansas State staffer came to the same conclusion that everyone else has, that it is a very long and athletic bunch.

He has actually been in Manhattan and seen many of the workouts over the Summer. Though he was officially hired just a week ago, he has familiarized himself with most of the roster for multiple months.

Perry also provided a peek into what they want to do on the court with the group that they have assembled. Like the head coach has shared before, he noted that they would emphasize defense and hang their hat on that end of the floor.

However, they also want to use their athleticism, along with the speed and craftiness of point guard Markquis Nowell, out in transition to run the floor and go as quickly as possible in a lot of cases.
