Reimer enjoys K-State's culture

Luke Reimer was one of the visitors on hand at Kansas State's junior day event on March 3.

He plays both sides of the ball in high school, but Lincoln (Neb.) North Star athlete Luke Reimer is mostly being recruited to play safety at the next level. More specifically, Kansas State is recruiting the Nebraska high school football standout to play strong safety.

Reimer was in Manhattan over a week ago for the Wildcats’ Junior Day. K-State has been interested in the North Star product for months, and he was finally able to check out the campus first-hand.

“It was good,” Reimer said. “I got to kind of see what they want from their players and how important a family culture is to their program. It was all awesome to hear about.”

No offer has been made to Reimer thus far despite Bill Snyder and Kansas State sending out a slew in the past few weeks. He will fall under the group of players that the Wildcats are interested in but would like to see at camp first before following all the way through with a scholarship.

“I just talked with Coach (Blake) Seiler,” Reimer said. “He just said they really want me at their camp this summer. And they want me to send them my track times this year.”

Speed does matter, and some of it is needed to play in the secondary at the Big 12 level. It is interesting that Seiler was his point of contact. Typically, recruits from Nebraska hear from assistants Collin Klein or Jon Fabris.

It’s probably not anything worth looking too much into, but possibly another slight change in the dynamics of Kansas State’s recruiting efforts.

The culture, however, has not changed. And it never will under the direction of head coach Bill Snyder.

“I was just impressed with how much that the family environment surrounds everything at K-State,” Reimer said. “The culture that Coach Snyder has made there stood out the most.”

Despite the visit, and the interest from Kansas State for a few months, Reimer is actually receiving far more interest from other programs at this time.

However, the camp season will determine the route of his recruitment.

“Of the schools talking to me, Kansas State is probably the least active I would say, honestly,” Reimer said. “But I’m pretty interested in K-State, for sure. I love what they are doing there.”
