Class of 2020 athlete Tayezhan Crough of Hutchinson High in Kansas is certainly one of the more dynamic and athletic talents in the entire state, regardless of class.

He can do it all from a running and cutting perspective. That has led him to some great hurdle times during his high school seasons, times that have put him on the map nationally.

“Yeah, I’m a national hurdler,” he said. “I’m rated third in the country for the 110-meter hurdles for my age group. I started off last year but couldn’t three-step too well, so I ran in the 16’s (seconds). This year, I have it down to 14.1 or 14-flat (seconds).

"So that’s a pretty good time for sure.”

An interesting discussion will be about what position Crough projects to the best. He certainly wants to remain on the offensive side of the ball and have the ball in his hands. However, that might not be the best use of his skills.

After seeing Crough in-person for the first time, there’s not a question about where he should play in my mind. I think he is best served on the other side of the ball, somewhere in the secondary.

He has his own wishes, of course, but also agreed about the versatility he has.

“With my build right now, I’m a little smaller,” he admitted. “I’ll probably get recruited to be a wide receiver and not a running back, likely in the slot. Or maybe even cornerback.”

As we have shared before, Kansas State is already interested in the rising junior. But he’s also now heard from Kansas as well as a little bit from Oklahoma and Nebraska. However, the interest from the Wildcats has trumped everyone else to date.

“I visited them a while ago,” Crough said. “I’m going to be going up there again, probably next month. They’re very interested right now. They are probably the most interested of anyone. I grew up a fan of them, and I’ve dreamed of playing there.

“An offer from K-State would be pretty much a dream,” he added. “At K-State, everyone is so nice. The campus is great. The coaches are great. I don’t know that many because they have a few new ones, but I like them a lot.”

With all the mutual interest, an offer from K-State could really set this recruitment in motion, and Crough was not bashful at all about that.

“I most likely would jump on a K-State offer pretty quick,” he pointed out. “I’m not saying I would commit right away, because I still have another year, but I’d consider it extremely hard right away.”
