Kansas State is ahead of schedule when it comes to the recruiting calendar, and it has been stressed when explaining the early positive signs on the recruiting trail for the class of 2019.

But, that also extends to the class of 2020. When you are on time or early, it can help pave the way for every class if you’re doing it right.

K-State is doing it right.

We’ve already shared about some of their success when it comes to the St. Louis area, which relates to 2020 standouts Cam’Ron Fletcher and Caleb Love. But, as is the case with the 2019 cycle, the Wildcats will cast a wide net. Another target that they will be in contact with is Payton Brown of Waldron High in Arkansas.

Brown has put up some ridiculous numbers and has some good film that has attracted a few different staffs – not just K-State. He’s gotten a lot of interest from Arkansas, of course, but also SMU and Oklahoma State.

He’s already visited Fayetteville but has plans to see the rest of the three very soon.

“I will be visiting SMU this weekend,” Brown told KSO. “I’m visiting Oklahoma State on the 21st. And I’ll be at Kansas State on March 3 when they play Baylor.”

The Razorbacks have been in to see him play, as has Oklahoma State. The Wildcats have yet to do so, but that has a chance to change.

“I’m pretty sure they have seen my highlights and my stats, which has them interested,” Brown explained. “I’ll talk to them a bit more before the visit and during the visit. They said it would be great if I visited, and they’re excited.”

Despite the little contact between Brown and KSU, the fact that he is visiting so soon is a positive sign. As is the interest altogether, since the K-State coaches haven’t turned up their aggression in pursuit of him, or even offered at this point.

The early overtures by Brown can only be seen as a strong indication of his interest in the Wildcats. But it’s not just an indication, he’s admitted why he’s intrigued about the program, and it isn’t just because of on-the-court factors.

“I just really like their program and style of play,” he pointed out. “My grandparents live in Kansas, and I’ve always been in Kansas quite a bit. I just really like their school.”
