Augustin averaged 23.0 points and 6.0 assists to help Texas to two victories last week. The sophomore guard posted a game-high 27 points and nine assists in a 77-50 victory over Texas A&M. He followed that performance with a game-high 19 points in Saturday's win over Oklahoma (62-45). In two games, he was 17-of-28 (.607) from the floor, including 4-of-8 (.500) from 3-point range. He also connected on 8-of-9 free throws (.889). He had 12 assists and four rebounds in the two contests. Augustin leads the Big 12 in assists (6.0) and ranks second in the league in scoring (19.1). This is his seventh all-time weekly honor, after he also captured rookie accolades four times in 2006-07 to go with his three player recognitions this year.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Michael Beasley, Kansas State, F, Fr., 6-10, 235, Washington, D.C./Notre Dame Prep [Mass.]
Beasley wins rookie honors for the fifth consecutive week, highlighted by a Big 12 single-game scoring record. In a 92-86 loss at Baylor on Saturday, he scored a league-record 44 points on 14-of-25 (.560) shooting, to go along with 15-of-15 from the free throw line and 13 rebounds. The freshman forward had 28 points by halftime, establishing a Big 12 mark for points in a half of a conference game. Beasley also recorded 17 points and 10 boards in a 71-64 loss at Nebraska. He averaged 30.5 points and 11.5 boards in the two outings, shooting 52.5 percent (21-of-40) from the floor and 17-of-18 (.944) from the charity stripe. The five consecutive weekly awards is the second-longest streak in any sport in Big 12 history, behind OU's Courtney Paris with eight straight in women's basketball (2005-06). The nine overall weekly awards by Beasley this year is one behind the Big 12 men's basketball record for combined honors set by Kevin Durant of Texas (four player, six rookie) a year ago.
