Campbell, Nelson capture Big 12 honors

Kansas State picked up two of the three Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday as wide receiver Jordy Nelson was named Offensive Player of the Week, while defensive end/linebacker Ian Campbell was named Defensive Player of the Week after their performances in last week's win at No. 7 Texas.
The awards mark the first time this season that a Wildcat has been honored by the league office. Nelson's weekly award is the first of his career, while Campbell has now garnered Big 12 weekly honors on two occasions. The last weekly honors for a Wildcat came after the 2006 Texas game when Josh Freeman (offense) and Yamon Figurs (special teams) were selected, while the last time Kansas State had both an offensive and defensive selection was back on November 15, 2003, after the Nebraska game (Ell Roberson and Bryan Hickman).

A native of Riley, Kan., Nelson has continued to rank among the nation's top wide receivers and had a tremendous all-around game in the win at Texas. The senior accounted for 206 yards in the contest, including 116 receiving yards on 12 catches, and two touchdowns. His scores came on a 4-yard pass reception to open the scoring and a third quarter, 89-yard punt return. Over his last two games, Nelson has combined for 27 catches and 325 yards receiving while accounting for four touchdowns.
Campbell, a junior, played a big role defensively as the Wildcats forced the Longhorn offense into a season-high four turnovers, all of which were interceptions. The Cimarron, Kan., native picked off the first pass of the game, on a ball he batted down, and then raced 41 yards for his first career interception return for a score. The interception return gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead late in the second quarter. Campbell would go on to record two more tackles on the afternoon and also had one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.
Kansas State returns to action on Saturday as the Wildcats face rival Kansas at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in a game that will be televised by Fox Sports Net. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
