Kansas State recently notched a recruiting win over Ole Miss for the services of Sunrise Christian Academy’s Damerius Wash. The post-grad guard, who has been playing in Wichita, picked the Wildcats on Sunday night after taking his official visit to Manhattan over the weekend.

The Wildcats hadn’t recruited him for a long time but grabbed his interest instantly and hung on to win the battle for the Mississippi native.

His second trip to Manhattan sealed the deal.

“The culture is so loving there,” Wash told KSO about K-State. “It just felt like home when I was there.”

Comfort and relationships always win recruiting battles. That is nearly the reason why each recruit picks a particular school. It was no different with Wash.

“I was recruited by Chester Frazier,” he noted. “That’s my guy. We made a tight relationship a while ago. We’re very close with one another.”

Wash was the second guard to commit to the Wildcats over the weekend. The first was high school senior Dajuan Gordon of Chicago. The two will look to replace current Kansas State seniors Barry Brown and Kamau Stokes.

Gordon is somebody seen with tons of defensive ability and a potential secondary ball-handler at the two or three, while Wash is very skilled on the offensive end. He’s been described as a bucket-getter, and that’s how the K-State coaching staff sees him as well.

“They just see me as a scorer,” Wash explained. “They are losing a couple of people, so they want me to come in and be a scorer. They also want me to attack the basket.”

The two, in addition to Montavious Murphy, give Bruce Weber and company three commitments for the Class of 2019. We do anticipate them adding one more at any moment, as well. That would fulfill the four openings that they’ll have following this season.

The class could certainly be more, but it will be at least four.
