The Class of 2020 in Kansas is a loaded one.
Four Sunflower State products in that cycle have already been offered, with about three others closing in on one.
However, as is typically the case with recruiting, even the class following that one is beginning to see some attention.
Class of 2021 offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts will likely receive the same kind of recruiting attention that Class of 2020 offensive tackle Turner Corcoran is receiving right now.
The sophomore-to-be from St. Thomas Aquinas High is 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds already. Roberts has great width, length and is extremely powerful.
Not only that, he’s pretty lean for his size. His body is probably close to a finished product, other than continuing to add strength. but he’s just scratching the surface in terms of knowing how to play and perfecting technique.
All of that has schools circling the waters already. He camped at Nebraska this summer and has been in contact with a few programs already.
“My recruitment is going pretty good,” he said. “I’m waiting for a couple more teams to come through. I have three more years to get offered by teams. I’m just a sophomore, so we’ll have to see.”
For clarity, nobody has offered. But they will. A lot of the nearby programs are very aware of his skills and talents.
“I really don’t have a favorite team or that one school I liked or rooted for,” Roberts shared. “I like a couple teams, kind of like Iowa State and Kansas State and Missouri. The power-five schools, really.”
It would be a surprise not see the interior offensive lineman finish up with at least 20-25 offers at the end of the day. In reality, it will probably be close to double that number. The Wildcats hope to play a role.
“I have spoken to K-State,” Roberts noted. “I can’t reach out to them because I am just a sophomore. I am going to go to a couple camps there this summer and see what happens. I’d like to visit K-State, Iowa State and a couple more schools. I will do that with camps.”
His decision won’t be a quick one, and he’ll take much of his time with it.
After all, again, he is just a sophomore.
However, his older brother Matthew Roberts is a linebacker at St. Thomas Aquinas that is expected to accrue a similar type of offer sheet as well. The brothers are very close and playing together at the same school in college is near the top of the priority list.
“That is the plan,” Jaeden Roberts said of the idea of them attending the same school. “If we have to go our separate ways, we will do that.
"But we’re going into it assuming we’ll go to the same one.”
