Wylie High School product Jackie Stanley and Shalin Spani of Metro Academy have signed letters of intent to attend Kansas State University in the fall of 2007 and play women's basketball for head coach Deb Patterson.

"We are thrilled with the addition of Jackie Stanley and Shalin Spani to our program," said Patterson. "Jackie and Shalin bring the combination of basketball talent, personal character, and work ethic that our Kansas State women's basketball program takes great pride in being built upon. These young ladies are tremendous student athletes in every sense of the word. I think one of the greatest attributes of each of these players is their commitment to being team players, in addition to the tremendous individual contributions they make to their teams."

Stanley, a 6-foot-2 forward, was a three-time first team all-district and two-time TABC all-region selection. She was also named TABC and TGCA all-state and 11-4A District MVP in 2006. Last season she averaged 20.5 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game and was named team MVP all three seasons. Stanley earned Wylie High School athlete of the month five times and player of the week by Dallas Morning News six times in three years. She is ranked sixth among the class of 2007 in the state of Texas by National All Star Girls Report.

"I look for Jackie to make an immediate impact on the physical nature of our post game," Patterson said. "She runs the floor as well as any high school post player of her size. Jackie is extremely strong and willing to be physical in the paint. She can score with her back to the basket and is also an effective passer and scorer from the high post. This past summer she competed against many of the finest players in the country and firmly established her ability to compete well against the best in the high school game. Jackie brings the competitive mentality and the physical toughness that great Big 12 players possess."

Spani, a 5-foot-11 guard, led Metro Academy to NCHBC National Championship her junior year. A three time NCHBC All-American, earned 2005 Street & Smith's High School All-American honorable mention in 2006. She was also selected first team all-state in 2006 and first team all-region in 2004 and 2005. Spani averaged 24.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.5 steal per game as a junior. She holds numerous school records including career points (2,467), points in a season (936) and points in a game (43).

"Shalin is a physical, strong guard who brings a versatile and balanced game to the floor," Patterson said. "She is a proficient three point shooter who will stretch the floor for us on the offensive end. Shalin also combines excellent transition instincts with the ability to be a very good half court passer. The competitive intensity Shalin brings to the floor is a great strength and makes her a terrific perimeter rebounder. Shalin will be a tremendous compliment to the aggressiveness of Shalee Lehning and will compete with a similar passion, and most importantly will bring an ability to impact winning."
