A native of Riley, Kan., Nelson had one of the finest seasons in K-State history as he grabbed a school-record 122 receptions for a school-record 1,606 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 10.2 catches per game average, 133.8 yards per game average and 1,606 total receiving yards all rank second nationally, while he also ranks 20th nationally in all-purpose yardage (155.2 ypg). He also has set the Big 12 record for catches and yards in a season by a senior wide receiver.
The Biletnikoff Award finalist recorded eight 100-yard receiving games and two 200-yard performances this season and caught 10 or more passes in six games, all of which are school records. His 15-catch performances against Missouri State and Fresno State and his 214 yards receiving at Iowa State set single-game K-State records, while his three receiving touchdowns at Oklahoma State tied the school record.
The former walk-on has 206 receptions for 2,822 yards and 20 touchdowns during his three-year career at wide receiver to establish himself on three career top-10 receiving lists at K-State. He is currently second all-time at Kansas State in catches and receiving yards, while he is third in career receiving touchdowns.
Nelson already has been named a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Rivals.com
The CBS Sports All-America Team is voted on by writers, producers and staff members, while the FWAA has selected an All-America team for 64 years with the help of its members and an All-America Committee which represents all the regions in the country.
