Ekow Boye-Doe Commitment: What it means for K-State

1. Kansas State takes another one away from Lawrence that held a KU offer but there was no drama to this one. It’s been the Wildcats for a while.

2. Rated a 2-star, but I don’t necessarily agree. I think he has a lot to learn but I also think he has unreal speed that is especially rare in the state of Kansas.

3. Yes, he could play offense. I don’t think he will. The position that allows him to reach his highest potential is definitely cornerback. But he’s a playmaker and will find the ball somehow.

4. Did I mention he’s fast? Yes, this kid has NFL corner speed. Now, I’m not sure he knows exactly what to do with it yet but that is OK. The footwork will come, or you at least hope so. But he has closing speed, recovery speed, acceleration, overall speed. He can do anything when it comes to running. The footwork is what needs work.

5. He’s got the hip flexibility to be a good one. There’s no stiffness to Boye-Doe. He’s a project because he doesn’t necessarily have a refined game yet but he has all the prerequisite traits to be a good one. Being a cornerback from Kansas caused him to be overlooked, I believe.

6. His high school coach, Dirk Wedd, is a legend, as many know. He has produced some excellent college football players before - most recently, Amani Bledsoe, who is performing well at Oklahoma. He’s pretty bullish on Boye-Doe’s ability and potential to be great. There’s more coming on that, so be on the look-out.

7. He’ll need another redshirt year. He hasn’t covered any blazing 4.3 or 4.4 wideouts that are going to play big-time ball so the step up in competition, especially as a cornerback in Kansas, will be drastic. Boye-Doe also needs a bit more weight to his frame which shouldn’t be difficult to tack on. KSU is thin at safety but I don’t think they are as thin at cornerback. Plus, Darreyl Patterson coming in takes away any need for Boye-Doe to play right away.
