Kansas State received excellent recruiting news earlier today when Houston signal-caller Chris Herron gave his verbal commitment to the Wildcat coaching staff. He’s the second quarterback commitment from Houston in as many years, following his friend John Holcombe who gave his word to K-State nearly a year ago.

The most excited and the biggest advocate for K-State during Herron’s recruitment may have been his mother, Taneka.

Following the official visit to Manhattan, she had this to say in a message she sent to KSO.

“We had an amaaaaaaaazing time there,” she delivered in a text message.

She’s also posted some noteworthy tweets as well.

And for the new Wildcat pledge, his decision became locked in with Kansas State even before he took his official visit to Cincinnati afterwards.

“I just loved just about everything I saw on my official visit to K-State,” he explained. “They’re big on family, and that’s my main concern. I want a family away from home. That’s what I saw and felt, and that is what I think about with anything that has to do with K-State. It is full of great people, it’s a good community, and the care goes beyond football.”

“The Cincinnati visit was good as well, but after I left Kansas, I was ready to get to K-State and ready to work,” Herron added.

A lot of recent recruiting interviews with various Kansas State targets have shed light on perhaps a different approach on the offensive side of the ball, at least slightly. However, the conversation with Herron wasn’t steered as much to that but more so about how well he fits into what they want to do.

“Kansas State has been running their stuff and have run it for the longest,” he pointed out. “They see my style of play taking their offense and what they do to a whole new level.”

Will Herron now put on his recruiting hat for the Wildcats and attract other talent his way?

“I think I have a few targets,” he revealed. “I’m not going to mention any names, but I’ve been on a few really good players and I think me making this move will help us get them.”
